THE BRAND

With a history that spans more than 100 years, the Georg Jensen brand represents quality craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic design, producing lifestyle products ranging from hollowware to watches, jewellery and home products.

According to the philosophy of company founder Georg Jensen, the company was to create a democratic design that combines functionality and beauty. His craftsmanship and artistic talent as well as his ability to recognize and support design talents formed the basis for the founding of Georg Jensen in 1904 in Copenhagen. Georg Jensen’s passion and experience have eventually lead to establishing stores in other parts of Europe as well: in Berlin, Paris, Stockholm and London.

Georg Jensen’s style was based on the back then current lines of the Art Nouveau but enriched them with a distinctive vibrancy that continues to resonate today.

Early on Georg Jensen worked with independent artists. One of the first ever in 1906 was the Danish painter Johan Rohde, who was to introduce undisguised and modernist forms to the Danish label at the end of the 1920s. Furthermore, the avant-garde designers Harald Nielsen and the famous designer and Swedish Prince Sigvard Bernadotte are to be mentioned as defining characters.

After Jensen’s death in 1935, his son Jørgen Jensen took over the management of the company. He retained the company’s basic attitude of distributing high-quality silver work by other designers. Among these designers were Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Henning Koppel and Erik Magnussen.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the company produced high-quality, sculptural jewellery and wristwatches by designers Nanna Ditzel and Vivianna Bülow-Hübe.

Until today, Georg Jensen still works with some of the most influential designers
